Jesus taught us to pray to our Father in Heaven: “Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matt. 6:10). Many churches pray for Jesus’ return every week. Do we mean it? Every aspect of our lives will be improved after His return. Do you see it?
In my opinion, many, if not most, of the Jews alive during Jesus’ ministry believed that Yahweh was the God of Israel and the Creator of the world, but they stumbled over the new disclosure from God that Jesus was the Christ and the Son of God. One week before his crucifixion, the people enthusiastically welcomed Him into Jerusalem (Matt. 21:1-11). The “crowds were saying, ‘This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee’” (Matt. 21:11). However, after His arrest, they considered Him a fraud. Then, the crowds shouted, “Crucify Him!” (Matt. 27:22-23).
Jesus, speaking of the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70, said, “Behold, your house is left to you desolate; and I say to you, you will not see Me until you say, ‘Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord!’” (Luke 13:35). The Greek verb eulogeō means, “to praise or honor.”[1] So, instead of crucifying their Messiah, the people of Jerusalem will praise, celebrate and honor their coming Messiah.
It is true to say that we do not know the day or hour of His second coming (Matt. 13:32). At 1 Thessalonians, Chapter 5, Paul wrote, “For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord is coming just like a thief in the night…. But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness, so that the day would overtake you like a thief” (1 Thess. 5:2, 4). In my opinion, there will be at least two signs that His second coming is drawing nearer and closer.
First, there will be growing numbers of Messianic Jews, who accept that Jesus is the Son of God. Zechariah 12:9-10 reads:
And on that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and of pleading, so that they will look at Me whom they pierced; and they will mourn for Him, like one mourning for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn.
At Romans 11:15, Paul wrote, “For if their rejection proves to be the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead.” Chat GPT currently estimates that as many as 15,000 to 30,000 Messianic Jews presently live in Jerusalem. [2] Pray for that number to grow in Israel and around the world.
As a second sign, we will see more and more Christians praying earnestly for the return of Christ. We should pray for Christians to make a priority of praying and hoping for the return of Jesus Christ. This is the only true hope for Planet Earth and humanity. Please note that we Christians and Jews will cross the finish line together. God’s will being done on Earth will be accomplished fully only by the return of Jesus Christ. Pray for the second coming of Jesus Christ!
