Perhaps some of our readers have watched the October 3, 2007, debate between atheist and world-renowned Biologist Richard Dawkins versus Oxford Mathematician and Theologian John Lennox.[1] The debate was held at the University of Alabama, Birmingham before a packed local audience and a worldwide viewership. The event was widely referred to as the “God Delusion Debate” because Dawkins had recently published his book, “The God Delusion.” In my opinion John Lennox got the upper hand in the debate, but I will let the reader come to his or her own conclusion.
Just recently, Richard Dawkins was once again in the news. In fact, he made several comments during an interview by Piers Morgan, which were quite helpful to the Christian worldview.[2] First, from the perspective of a biologist, Richard Dawkins agreed with Piers Morgan that there are just two biological sexes, male and female, “and that is all there is to it.” Further, Richard Dawkins referred to the “tiny minority” of Gender Identity Advocates as “bullies” and accused them of spouting “errant nonsense.”[3]
The Holy Scriptures declare that God created man in His own image, and He created humanity as male and female (Gen. 1:26). At Genesis 2:24, we read, “For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” The Gender Identity Movement is a subjective, revolutionary, philosophical, psychological, and political movement, which asserts that men and women should have the freedom to play god and determine their own gender identity. Of course, none of this changes the incontrovertible reality that there are just two biological sexes, male and female. It turns out that what most of us learned in biology class is still true. Women have two X sex chromosomes, and men have an X and Y sex chromosome. This scientific reality remains true even if there are a few rare “medically verifiable genetic disorder[s] of sexual development.”[4]
Tennessee lawmakers recently passed a law, which was ultimately signed by Governor Lee, “prohibiting children from receiving puberty blockers, hormone therapy, or surgical procedures” for the purpose of gender transition.[5] Under this law, patients who received treatment as minors will also be allowed to sue their parents, guardians, and physicians, who authorized the gender transition medical treatment.[6] Many Christians and others believe that gender transition medical treatment for minors is a type of child abuse. Of course, it is widely held that minors should receive certain special protections under the law. A standard drinking age limit is just one obvious example.
The idea of practicing love toward others (and particularly children) cannot be separated from the foundational principles of God’s truth. To reject God’s declaration that He made us male and female is just another modern delusion. Unfortunately, even some Christians have been beguiled by this great lie and errant nonsense. The secret to finding happiness is seeking to please our Creator God and being and/or becoming what He wants us to be. We must find our true identity in Jesus Christ. The answer for one’s unhappiness is never disobedience to God. Modern humans have often wondered how ancient civilizations could practice child sacrifice. However, once again, we can see that child sacrifice is a byproduct of the relentless propaganda of lies propagated as humans seek to appease one false god or another.
